In the heart of Haiti, in our transition home, lives a young man named Kervens. At 21 years old, Kervens is the epitome of kindness and resilience, his soft-spoken nature masking a spirit of determination that has inspired all who have met him.

Kervens’ journey has been anything but easy. When he was just a little boy, a soccer game turned into a life-altering event when he broke his leg. For twelve long years, the bones never healed properly, leaving him with a stiff, straight leg that he couldn’t bend. But Kervens never let this physical challenge dim his spirit.

In June of 2021, thanks to the unwavering support and dedication of Give Hope Global, Kervens underwent a transformative surgery. Just a week later, the community was greeted with a heartwarming sight: Kervens riding a bike, his face lighting up with a smile that spoke volumes about his newfound freedom and j

oy.

Amidst this newfound mobility, another talent of Kervens came to light—his remarkable ability to sew. One day, he told Angela, “If you will buy me a manual sewing machine, I will start sewing today.” True to his word, Kervens began honing his craft, stitching together not just fabrics, but a future filled with promise.

Fast forward three years, and Kervens’ journey is nothing short of extraordinary. While finishing high school, he diligently practiced his sewing skills. His hard work paid off when he earned a scholarship from Shop Hope/Give Hope to enroll in a sewing college for couture fashion.

Kervens’ story didn’t stop there. A couple of months ago, he was awarded a Give Hope small business loan to launch his sewing business. In just one month, Kervens produced

countless bags, selling them in Les Cayes and proudly making his very first loan repayment. His entrepreneurial spirit and dedication have been nothing short of inspiring.

We are beyond proud of Kervens and the incredible strides he has made. His story is a testament to the power of resilience, the importance of support, and the impact of hope.  As Kervens continues to build his future, we remain committed to supporting him every step of the way, praying for his continued success.

Kervens’ journey is a beacon of hope, reminding us all that with determination, support, and a little bit of hope, anything is possible.

These are a few words from Kervens about his life story –

“I was born into a poor family to a single mother who already had two sons. I never knew my father and then my mother died when I was two years old. After my mother’s death it was my grandmother who was left to care for me but her economic means were low so she took me to Cambry to live. I am so thankful for Give Hope who took care of me and supported me. I spent most of my life with a damaged leg but thanks to Give Hope I can walk well again. My grandm

other loved me very much but she passed away three years ago leaving me with no family. It is Give Hope who represents my only family now.”
